Itinerary


Day 1

Chennai
Arrive Chennai and check in at hotel. Visit the National Art Gallery and Museum, Fort St. George, St. Mary's Church, Marina Beach , San Thome Cathedral and Mylapore Shiva Temple. Evening free for shopping. Overnight at hotel.

 
Day 2 Chennai - Trichy (64 km / 1 hour approx)
After breakfast check out and leave for tour of Kanchipuram , an ancient capital of the Pallavas and city of 1000 Temples and 124 shrines. Proceed for tour of Mahabalipuram. Take overnight train for Trichy.

 
Day 3 Trichy
Arrive Trichy and check in at hotel. Afternoon tour of Trichy, the city which witnessed the Carnatic wars between the French and the English. Visit the Danish Church, Rock-Fort, the ancient temple of Ganapati - climb 434 steps which leads to the Shiva temple. Overnight at hotel.

 
Day 4 Trichy Madurai (119 km / 2 hrs approx)
After breakfast drive to Madurai. Enroute visit Tanjore . See the beautiful Chola Temple of Brihadeshwara capped by a monolithic cupola made of a single granite block weighing 80 tons which was taken to the top with the help of a 6 km long ramp, an old technique used by the Egyptians for building pyramids. Bronze items and handicrafts make Tanjore worth visiting . Overnight at hotel.

 
Day 5 Madurai
After breakfast visit the great Meenakshi Temple, known for 1000-pillars, towering gopurams ,dedicated to Lord Shiva. Tirumala Nayak Palace - A gracious building, famous for the Stucco work on its domes & arches, Alagar Hills and Tirupara Kundran Rock temple. Afternoon free. Overnight at hotel.

 
Day 6 Madurai Chennai (444 km / 8 hrs approx)
After breakfast, depart Madurai for Chennai. Transfer to airport / station.
